There is much fear and anger of ‘the other’ that seems to be
generated by this Administration and the entire GOP Congress running in 2018. And the
Democrats are not always effective in countering any kind of attack that has
been leveled against them.
For instance, in the Senate race in Florida, there should be
some debate, one week from the midterm election, about gun control. We have had
the Trayvon Martin killing, the Pulse Nightclub attack and most recently the Parkland
High shooting, along with the controversial “Stand Your Ground” law that has
been the basis for many trials and deaths where this law has been invoked,
including the Trayvon Martin trial.
There has been very little discussion about the need in the Florida
Legislature to adequately address gun control in Florida. And the need is
greater than ever. The recent ads and DeSantis’ attacks on Gillum, as well as
the back and forth from Scott and Nelson has been inadequate...I wish Nelson
would talk about the NRA and Scott’s affinity and devotion to them as opposed
to his own support for common sense gun laws and background checks. But instead, we
see Bill Nelson looking much younger as he is suited up as an Astronaut! Well,
bully for you Bill, but honestly, I don’t think the young people care about
your Astronaut "creds" as much as they do about the laws on the books in Florida
and nationally that allow people to buy AK-47 rifles!
Also, the Scott Administration has asked their people not to use
the words “Climate Change”....and this is something that should have been hammered
home in ads and throughout the campaign. Do I have to come over there and run your marketing campaign?! Honestly, you’d think the marketing and political pros could do better.
Throughout Hillary’s run in 2016, I would routinely yell at the TV to
tell them to stop talking about her damn e-mails. The political people working
for Hillary should have been as stubborn as the Trump campaign as far as
addressing only the issues they wanted to talk about and to stop talking to
those who only asked about the emails. How hard could that be? We can see
things from a distance now, but on the ground, and in the moment, perhaps it’s
harder for people to see how things look...But I will confess that I did see
this, and was remarking at the time how troubling it was the media would not
stop about the emails, as well as simply printing the WikiLeaks reports without
even questioning the Russian hackers interference, which had been reported at
the time! So....Do I have to come over there AGAIN, people?! Don’t make me come
up to your room! (The world according to ME is a much better place!)
