The Pie in the Sky Revolution has begun

The fight is on! Little did we know it was going to be between younger vs older women. Words like bring out the vote, suffrage, the Voting Rights Act, Equal pay for equal work, Women’s Lib, Women’s Equality, the Lilly Ledbetter fair pay act…all of these resonate with women “of a certain age.” But not with college women. They are with Bernie.

And then there’s Barney Frank. Speaking of the Occupy Wall Street Movement, Frank had mused once, “Where were these young people when we were trying to pass Dodd-Frank?”

The next musing is from me: “Do they know how laws are passed? And do they really want a Revolution?” Because the candidate of Hope & Change that did cause quite a bit of political upheaval was Barack Obama. His hard-fought contest with Hillary ended with his election, and a contentious battle over Health Care (Obamacare), and the passage of Wall Street reform that became the Dodd-Frank Bill.

Barney Frank again talking about the Tea Party Movement: : “These people did not just ‘parachute’ through the top of the Capitol Dome. They were duly elected and voted into office by their constituency. “

In other words, no matter how nutty or extreme they may seem to some, there is a constituency for these elected officials out there. People actually Voted for their extreme policies and their far-right agenda.

The actual definition of Socialism is: “A variety of social and economic systems characterized by social ownership and democratic control of the means of production; as well as the political ideologies, theories, and movements that aim at their establishment.” Therefore a Democratic Socialist is….please explain, Bernie.

The next time Bernie Sanders explains the reason that health care will be fine without the ACA, since there will be no monthly insurance premiums, please ask a reporter to follow up by asking what happens to the myriad number of insurance companies and exchanges that are in existence at this time.

We are not going to start over. That is pretty clear. Even the head of the Democratic Caucus, Nancy Pelosi, the arbiter and Executor of all things Obamacare, has decreed that we are done trying to pass Health Care Legislation. So what gives?

Pie in the Sky vs Feet on the Ground.  The Generation Gap is showing. It’s not a Feminist argument, but rather a testament to the Exuberance and Passion of Youth. Who would have “thunk” that a rather dour looking 74 year old man would embody the hopes and aspirations of a New Generation of Dreamers?

Not to mention the rest of the Revolution is now on hold. That being defined as the parts where the Immigration Bill, Black Lives Matter movement, LGBT rights, minority rights and Voting Right suppresion,  plus Roe v Wade and all the things that a Democratic Platform and ticket represent are all taking a back seat to the Income Inequality subject that a one-note candidate beats his drum for.

That is the price you pay for the Revolution. And if Michael Bloomberg chooses to throw water on a Democratic Candidate, all he needs to do is throw his hat in the ring and that will effectively give us the Ralph Nader/Ross Perot effect.

Meaning a President Trump may very well get a chance to build that blasted wall!

The Fifth Risk: A Chillingly Prophetic Narrative for our Time

For those who have never read this book, ,”The Fifth Risk” is a chillingly prophetic narrative that perfectly embodies the reasoning and set of circumstances that have led us to this point in the pandemic. Not only is there no plan for getting us out of the Pandemic-at least from the Trump Administration- there is instead a decisive narrative which Lewis lays out that allows you to understand why there is a pattern to the idea of simply ‘dropping off the cliff.’   The plan from the beginning, long before the Trump Administration even began to take power, was to break down the walls of governance that had surrounded the Washington agencies for decades prior. Of course, many of Trump’s supporters argue: That is the point! Steve Bannon proudly declared that government would be ‘de-constructed.’ And even those who ended up disagreeing with Trump heavily, such as John Kelly and Rex Tillerson, did help implement the policies that were laid out in the beginning of Trump’s tenur...

Hillary and the Man in the Arena

From the standpoint of one who voted for and endorsed Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton, there seems to be a question hanging in the air. How could someone who opposed the Clintonian dynasty support Hillary’s bid for the Presidency? Isn’t it a bit hypocritical? Or at least inconsistent with the view previously taken? This is true for many supporters of Obama. Some on the left cannot support her bid for President. They see many of her acknowledged flaws and conclude she cannot be a viable option. My view comes from watching her over the course of the past eight years, four as the Secretary of State within this Administration. And having watched the two debate in 2008- Obama vs. Hillary- there can be little question that the divide that separates them on most issues is a small one. Theirs is a centrist left view of the world. On Foreign Policy, I daresay that Hillary would never have worked for Obama had she held wildly opposing views from his own world view. But the...

Katy Bar the Door: The Fall of the House of Reagan

·           Can this Marriage be Saved? There seems to be a disturbance in the force with the Tea Party activists and the rare seldom sighted moderate Republicans all coming out of the woodwork to ask what happened. There seems to be no way to reunite the odd, feuding factions that have erupted into deep schisms in the Republican Party. All one can do is to grab popcorn and stay tuned for what The Donald will do or say next… ·          Can he be Stopped? If you plaster his face at the post office, with the caption below Donald Trump’s picture reading, Can Someone stop this man?, would anyone be able to act? The GOP seems to be in a panic suddenly, as they realize that this man is soon to become the new face of the Grand Old Party.   ·      Old adages do apply: “ Nice Guys Finish Last ” We’ve learned over the course of the last few weeks that those tired old ...
