He's Gone Rogue!

Obama has carved out something of a Lone Wolf Presidency in recent weeks. After the China Climate deal, the immigration Executive Order on immigration, plus his budget deal with Congress and finally the announcement of the opening of ties with Cuba….it all adds up. Obama has finally broken out of the box. He’s free now without fetters from Congress, from future elections, and even from his own party.

He’s gone rogue, as they say, in defining his legacy. And in his final two years, or as he terms it, “the fourth quarter” of his Presidency, he’s ensuring that his legacy is going to be more about the positives and things he can do then the obstruction that has plagued him throughout much of his last six years.

Obamacare will always be a defining force with this President. But after scaling down two of the longest wars in American history, killing Osama Bin Laden, ramping up a new policy of spying and drone warfare, and propping up a faltering economy, Obama has had no time to stop and take a breath.

He still wants to close Guantanamo, that’s a given. And I’m sure he would love, if not a Grand Bargain, than at least some time of infrastructure deal and perhaps a re-shaping of the Corporate Tax Code if it is possible. If not, he will continue to go it alone in order to shape his legacy without the help or approval of an obstructionist Congress.

Are we even asking the right questions?

What is this about really? Are we somehow conflating this withdrawal with the idea of America as a superpower? Is it about American Exceptionalism and the idea that we have lost our innocence? Is this something that we will use to justify what we are doing in the world; where we are going, and what we want to be known for in the world? Just asking what we want to stand would be a good start in terms of questions going forward. This may be a conversation that needs to be had in the coming years. All of the talk, and the hopes and aspirations were discussed and mapped out before being put into the small 21st Century online political group that was created in 2017. For those Dems in Despair...Take Heart!

Here is something that I've noticed. The fact is, most of the Hillary supporters were very upbeat and happy before the Election. And the mood for most Trump voters has always been some kind of perpetual gloom and doom attitude towards everything. They walk around perpetually convinced that Armageddon is near. Well, now that the Apocalypse has occurred (at least in Blue America), we need to take a deep breath, take a few steps, and look at the Big Picture from 10,000 feet. 1. Trump has to deliver: On all those promises, both real and totally unrealistic that he made during the Election.
