But Does it Play in Peoria?

      Hope & Change Make America Great Again Nixon’s the One Slogans are great, Violets are good, But in the long run, does it play in the Hood?   If it plays in Peoria, then it should work. But perhaps we want someone who isn’t fixated on short term fixes and catchy slogans. Maybe boring is better for our long-term stability.   There are some people who are angry, and the anger seems to be directed at the wrong outlets. Wall Street created this debacle of bundling mortgages and gambling with their client’s money in risky schemes. It almost collapsed the economy. The Bush Administration gambled on the fact they could sell the public on a risky war and lower taxes with trickle-down Economic theory that didn’t work. It left us with a huge deficit problem.   We still need to come together and decide on the long-term solvency of our most cherished institutions, namely Social Security and Medicare. These are ...

Cancel the Easter Egg Roll!

After the Pakistan Easter Day Bombing in Lahore, President Obama hosted an Easter Egg roll the next day, which is a traditional White House event. He also went to a baseball game and wore sunglasses in Cuba after the Brussels attack.   He was highly criticized for daring to show signs of levity while Europe and Brussels were reeling from a terrorist attack. But curiously, not a word was spoken about the hi-jinks and laughter on the White House lawn after so many people had died on Easter Day. Even the Pope had issued a statement of condolence. The difference was that one country had high-profile white European allies, and the other country, Pakistan, consisted of mainly Muslims.   All were killed by terrorists. The Pope denounced the killing of Christians, but the irony was that most of the dead in Pakistan were not of the Christian faith.   The point is that perhaps the President should never leave The Situation Room.
