Donald Trump at the zoo

There are times you may remember visiting a zoo, and you may have seen people stare in fascinated horror as they watch the poop-throwing antics of a rogue monkey. Displaying bizarre and inappropriate behavior is one reason that people are so fascinated. It’s hard to look away.

Now, about Donald Trump. Why would anyone be shocked…shocked! by The Donald’s poop-throwing behavior? It’s what he does, that’s just his way. So are we going to go through 8 or 9 months of this?

Because there’s a national security crisis with Chinese hackers, ISIS threats, gun control debates, the Iran Deal, income inequality, major problems with racial inequality and immigration reform, plus the small matter of electing a new leader of the Free World. To that question, here’s a hint: It ain’t Donald Trump.

He’s not even close to being a viable candidate, but he will be a major spoiler if the National Media keep staring in fascination and horror as the monkey throws poop at the bars.

Are we even asking the right questions?

What is this about really? Are we somehow conflating this withdrawal with the idea of America as a superpower? Is it about American Exceptionalism and the idea that we have lost our innocence? Is this something that we will use to justify what we are doing in the world; where we are going, and what we want to be known for in the world? Just asking what we want to stand would be a good start in terms of questions going forward. This may be a conversation that needs to be had in the coming years. The Looming Tower is before us...

The Looming Tower is the famous title of the book written about 9/11. Lots of reflections have taken place since that book was released. What we have gained and what we lost has been reflected upon in great detail as we marked the 20 th Anniversary of 9/11 in this country. The type of things we value were on display. Law enforcement heroes and firefighters who showed courage in the face of looming disaster were remembered and honored. The heroes of the doomed Pennsylvania flight who chose to take the plane down rather than allow the evil hijackers to assault the government were praised and lauded. What we cherish was on full display. How we learned to grieve is part of our legacy. The long road back to restore the pride of our New York skyline was another tale. We even debated, in the tradition of Americans, how to remember the Towers and the legacy that they left to us. It was also a stark reminder of why we went to fight...

The Numbers Game-Mid-terms are almost here!

The mid-term elections are almost upon us. And even before Election Day, the trend lines are clear. The race has become a numbers game. It’s nail-biting time for Dems, only because we wait to see how big the losses are. My prediction-apart from my hopes & beliefs- is that the GOP will probably pick up the Senate. Nate Silver has it as a 66% certainty. At that point, the Governor’s races will be the only bright spot on the horizon. If the Dems can pick up Florida, and perhaps knock Scott Walker out in Wisconsin, then it will be a good night. Or at least the lesser of the worst-case scenarios envisioned for the Democratic Party. If the losses are contained in the Senate to either hold a 50-50 majority with VP Biden as tie-breaker, or simply at +1 for the GOP, the majority will not mean so very much for the Senate.
